Danielle embarked on an artistic journey that spans decades. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 1990, she became active in the Edmonton arts community. She was president of W.E.C.A.N., the organization that runs Harcourt House Art Centre for two years in the early 1990s.

My style is expressive and abstract, with elements of surrealism.  I use vibrant, non-realistic colours and bold brushstrokes to depict a scene that blends organic and man-made forms. My style is expressive and abstract, with elements of surrealism.  I use vibrant, non-realistic colours and bold brushstrokes to depict a scene that blends organic and man-made forms. Objects and people are rendered in a way that is both representational and distorted, almost dreamlike. All forms are similarly stylized, not aiming for photorealism but rather conveying a feeling or emotion through their shape and colour. The overall effect is one of movement and energy, with a slightly whimsical or fantastical quality.

Process

I like to start with very broad shapes of objects I see in my everyday life. From there, I build relationships with images and shapes that compliment or question the existence of these objects. By the time I complete the whole painting, it is difficult to discern which element has the most importance.
